Grab the script
Add your site in the dashboard using its bare hostname — no https://, no
trailing slash and no www., even if www. is what your
visitors see. Both forms resolve to the same site, so only the bare one can be registered.
The tag waiting on the next screen already has your hostname in it, so copy that one rather
than the sample below.

<script defer data-domain="example.com" src="https://cdn.absolutelyanalytics.com/aa.js"></script> Paste it into your site
One tag, on every page you want counted. Put it inside your <head>
for the best results: the browser finds it while it is still parsing the document, so the
visit is recorded even if the reader leaves before the page has finished loading. Lower down
the page it still works — it just starts a little later.
Nothing else changes. There is no build step, no package to install, no consent flow to wire
up, and defer means it never holds up your own rendering.
Check your dashboard
Deploy the change, then open your own site in a browser and go back to your dashboard. The visit shows up in the realtime view within a second or two, and you are tracking visitors.
Seeing nothing? Almost always it is one of two things: the page you opened was on
localhost, which is ignored on purpose so that developers do not pollute
production numbers, or the data-domain in the tag does not match the hostname
you registered. Both are covered in verifying the install.
Once it is counting
You now have pageviews, sources, countries, devices and realtime — all of it without a cookie. The rest is optional:
- The full install reference — single-page apps, hash routing, tag managers, content security policy, and serving the script from your own domain.
- Custom events and goals — signups, downloads and outbound clicks, from markup or from code.
- Excluding your own traffic — keep your own visits and your staging site out of the numbers.
